In seinen primär ortsspezifischen Arbeiten setzt er sich mit den soziokulturellen und räumlichen Konditionen gegebener Kontexte auseinander. Grundlage dieser Untersuchungen ist die Beobachtung des Verhältnisses zwischen Subjekt und Raum sowie körperliche und materielle Verständigungen mit dem Umraum. Seine Praxis bewegt sich dabei zwischen zwei Modi: spielerische Reaktionen auf die Gegebenheiten und technisch versierte Interventionen, die den Raum und die Raumerfahrung neu formen.
Micael Gonçalves Ribeiro (born 1993 in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal) lives and works in Münster. His artistic practice spans performance, installation, sculpture, and printmaking, as well as curatorial projects. In his primarily site-specific works, he negotiates the socio-cultural and spatial conditions of given contexts. The basis of these investigations is an observation of the relationship between subject and space, as well as physical and material engagements with the surrounding environment. His practice shifts between two distinct modes: playful responses to site-specific conditions and technically adept interventions that reshape space and its perception.
