My artistic work plays with floral shapes, bright colors and a formal image structure that is clearly defined by layers. The motifs are based on botanical illustrations whose origins lie between science and art. Reduced to their form and playfully arranged with doodles or brushstrokes they become the subject of my imagery.
My pictures thrive on formal contrasts, repetitive elements, as well as targeted attention to detail that stimulates the viewer's perception. Viewing habits from the digital world, e.g. daily use of digital displays and computer programs, have an influence on the color scheme and the formal image structure.
By focusing on flowers as a motif, I tie in with the long tradition of floral still life and floral ornaments in art.
